A driver has been arrested after reportedly tasering a man trying to stop him from leaving a hit-and-run scene.

Officers responded to reports of a car failing to stop following a crash in Stewart Avenue, Upminster at 4.20pm on Tuesday.

Witnesses told Havering Daily the car smashed into some bins before coming to a stop. When quick-thinking bystanders snatched the driver’s bag to stop him from leaving, he returned with a taser.

Police said a man in his 50s, was injured by a non-police taser. He was treated by paramedics.

A pedestrian, a woman in her 50s, was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Neither of the two injured was taken to the hospital.
