The BBC will remain fiercely independent and genuinely accountable to viewers according to the Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy.
She told MPs that the process of reviewing its charter would begin shortly – defending the corporation as a “national institution that belongs to us all”.
Earlier the BBC’s outgoing director general Tim Davie urged staff to “fight for our journalism” in the face of Donald Trump’s threat to sue for a billion dollars.
