His name is Wombat and he is the new facility dog assigned to the New Castle County Police Community Services Unit.

He was introduced to the public on Monday, November 10, 2025, and received his badge from Colonel Jamie Leonard.

Wombat, and his human facilitator Master Corporal Adam Orndorff, will serve as a goodwill ambassador at community service events, help calm and comfort witnesses, crime victims, and anyone who may otherwise be afraid, uncomfortable or nervous in a police related incident.

Wombat follows in the paw prints of Sergeant Nikko, the department's first facility dog who served from 2018 until his retirement this past summer (story left).
