WASHINGTON ( WSFA ) - On the day of celebrating Veterans, Congressman Shomari Figures introduced a bipartisan bill to recognize those who served our country.

The bill was made to designate the U.S. Postal Service facility at 401 North Elm Street in Tuskegee, Alabama, as the “Tuskegee Airmen Memorial Post Office”.

“Today, on my first Veterans Day in Congress, I want to wish a happy Veterans Day to all the men and women who have ever put on the uniform in defense and protection of the United States of America,” Figures said.

The Tuskegee Airmen are among America’s most celebrated servicemembers. They were the first African American aviators in the U.S. military who trained at Tuskegee Army Airfield and fought bravely during World War II.
