Montreal police (SPVM) have arrested two suspects in connection to a chain of online robberies made via ad platforms in the Anjou, Saint-Léonard and Mercier–Hochelaga–Maisonneuve boroughs, on Nov. 5.

The suspects, who both 15 years old, allegedly used cayenne pepper to assault and rob their victims, according to the SPVM. According to police, the two would lure prospective buyers in-person to rob them.

“The SPVM would like to take this opportunity to remind citizens to exercise caution when completing transactions initiated online,” Montreal police said in a press release. “Using a secure exchange area is an excellent way to reduce the likelihood of falling prey to fraudsters or attackers.”
