Hundreds gathered at memorial services across the Kingston region on Tuesday to mark the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month of the year, annually celebrated across Canada as Remembrance Day.

The day is an opportunity for the general public to demonstrate the act of remembrance by attending ceremonies at cenotaphs and memorial sites in the communities in which they live. By doing so, the Royal Canadian Legion points out online , they are “paying tribute to members of the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP who served to defend our values and freedoms,” as well as honouring those who continue to serve the country in the present day.

The wintry weather didn’t discourage residents from attending a pair of Remembrance Day ceremonies near the lake in Kingston on Tuesday.
