The Pittsburgh Steelers are making a big splash signing deep into the season and adding to their defensive secondary in a big way.

Per Jeremy Fowler, the Steelers are signing cornerback Asante Samuel Jr.

“Free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. is signing with the Steelers practice squad, per source,” Fowler reports. “A top-25 free agent in March, Samuel recovered from spinal-fusion surgery in time to sign for the season’s second half. Now, he gets a new start with Pittsburgh.”

Samuel was scheduled to have a visit with the Steelers on Wednesday, but it appears he will be Pittsburgh-bound.

Samuel was drafted by the Chargers in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Florida State. In 50 games with the Chargers, he had six interceptions and 37 passes defended.
