GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) — A Gainesville High School student worked for 25 hours to make a red, white, and blue blanket for a World War II veteran in Gainesville.

Abigail Dew, a GHS student, presented the blanket to a lively crowd at the Atrium, a senior living center. She gave it to the last World War II veteran living there.

Dew said she loves to crochet and was glad to pay it forward this Veterans Day, since her grandfather was a veteran too.

“I am so excited it’s gonna be used and well-loved, since a lot of my crochet projects I’m the only one who uses them, but to know that this is going to someone who really deserves it and really deserves the comfort and worth it will bring is just beyond measure of how wonderful it is,” Dew said.
