SHARPSBURG, Md. -- Silence settled over the town square in Sharpsburg, Maryland, as the crowd observed a moment of silence at the town's annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Tuesday morning, to remember local veterans who have fallen while in the line of duty.

Sponsored by the Antietam Unit 236 American Legion Auxiliary, the ceremony also honored 28 local living veterans in attendance. The veterans were encouraged to come up and introduce themselves and their military service history, before receiving a token of thanks from the auxiliary, in the form of a commemorative gold coin, lapel pin, page magnet and copy of the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence.
