SPOKANE, Wash. - Second Harvest hosted a special food drive this Veterans Day to give back to those who served, coming at a time of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history and mounting uncertainty surrounding lapses in SNAP benefits.
The food drive was hosted at the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
While the food drive was open to everyone, it was not widely publicized in order to cater more specifically to veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Organizers at the event said they had shelf-stable food as well as produce available, and they try to offer a consistently nutritious variety.
