DARTMOUTH, Mass. —

The National Transportation Safety Board released its preliminary findings of a deadly Dartmouth, Massachusetts, plane crash that killed a Rhode Island couple and injured a passing motorist.

The plane crashed on Oct. 13 around 8:15 a.m. on Interstate 195 just minutes after takeoff.

According to the NTSB's report, the pilot of the small plane remained in constant contact with air traffic control for most of the flight, until making "an unintelligible exclamation" at the end before striking a line of trees.

The Socata TBM 700C2 departed from New Bedford Regional Airport around 8 a.m. and planned to fly to Kenosha, Wisconsin.

At approximately 8:05 a.m., the pilot told air traffic control he would be returning to the airport, according to the preliminary report.
