The term “variable” is a fitting description of 2025 in several ways. The weather has been highly variable. Planting dates were variable, and not surprisingly, so were the soybean yields.
Laura Lindsey, Ph.D., OSU Extension soybean and small grain specialist, says the reports she has received, as well as the results of their yield trial, have also been variable.
“The reports that I’ve heard from people are extremely variable, even within a county. Our performance trials and our variety testing program show variability across the state as well,” she said.
Lindsey said that some of the biggest surprises were in how good the yields were in areas of the state that received very little rainfa
