ATLANTA, Texas - Dozens of volunteers spent the day remodeling the home of an east Texas veteran.
The upgrades are thanks in part to a $17,000 grant from the Home Depot foundation. More than 70 volunteers pitched in to help with the Veteran Home Remodel Project.
“For them to even consider us is amazing. This to me is just a gift from God. It's pure and simple. It is the grace of God for us,” said Amy Gunstanson, a homeowner who served in the Navy for six years.
While Veterans Day is the biggest work day, TXK MakeReady Construction, Restoration of Hope and other volunteers had already leveled the home of Clifton and Amy Gunstanson.
Volunteer Jason Butler says the project is only possible through generous donations and teamwork.
