WASHINGTON — Veterans on an honor flight from Madison, Wisconsin received an unexpected welcome this weekend when former President Barack Obama boarded their plane after it landed in Washington, D.C.

Obama surprised the 79 veterans of the Korean and Vietnam Wars ahead of Veterans Day, and can be seen greeting them over the loudspeaker before personally shaking hands with each passenger as they exited the aircraft in a video posted to X.

“Ahead of Veterans Day, I was honored to welcome a flight of veterans and their families as they arrived in D.C.,” Obama said in the video caption. “To all those who bravely served our country, thank you to you and your family for your extraordinary service. The sacrifices that all of you made to protect our country will be honored, today and every day.”
