A 29-year-old man has died following a tragic fall from a balcony at the Big Weekender event at Butlins in Skegness. Bartosz Urbaniak suffered severe brain trauma after reportedly losing his footing and plunging from a third-floor balcony on September 28.
Witnesses say Urbaniak attempted to climb from one balcony to another before the fatal fall occurred around 12.15pm. A trainee nurse at the event immediately rushed to his aid, performing CPR until the air ambulance arrived. Despite being transported to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, he succumbed to his injuries two days later.
His girlfriend paid an emotional tribute, describing him as having “the biggest heart and soul.” She expressed her grief, stating, “Saying goodbye to you for the very last time was something I never imagined I’d have to do. You had the biggest heart and a soul far too kind for this world.” She added, “Please watch over Layton, he’s your mirror, your legacy, and he carries your light in everything he does.”
An inquest into Urbaniak's death was opened by the Greater Lincolnshire Coroner, revealing the cause as a traumatic brain injury along with multiple other injuries from the fall. Eyewitnesses shared their shock on social media, with one person noting that Urbaniak had fallen from a "reasonable" height, while another recounted how a bystander had provided CPR.
Kirsty Bradberry, who witnessed the emergency response, remarked, "The air ambulance landed in the apartment block next to me and my friends! So sad that it seems he has passed, thoughts go out to his family and friends x."
Lincolnshire Police confirmed they were called to the scene after a report concerning the man's safety at 12.14pm. Authorities stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious, and it is believed Urbaniak may have suffered a medical episode following the fall. The Mirror has reached out to Butlins for further comment on the incident.
