LANCASTER, S.C. (WBTV) - Leaders in Lancaster County are preparing to take another look at the county’s roadway needs.

On Election Day last Tuesday, voters turned down a 1% sales tax increase that would have helped address road concerns and fund road and traffic improvements across the county. The referendum was also voted down in 2024.

County leaders say that road projects will still move forward, and residents share that they want to see road and infrastructure projects prioritized.

The proposed sales tax referendum would have increased the current sales tax from 8% to 9%. Those funds were expected to generate $253 million over 10 years to fund and expedite road projects across Lancaster County.
