Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne was ejected in the second quarter of Sunday's loss to the Lions after he punched Detroit receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown seemingly unprovoked.
Well, Payne wanted everyone to know the context behind that punch ... and that the refs missed it.
For his role in the altercation, Payne was suspended for one game. He appealed the suspension, but it was upheld Tuesday. His argument against the ban seemed to stem on the fact that St. Brown punched him first in front of officials. And he took to Instagram on Tuesday to share the clip.
St. Brown's punch came a couple plays before Payne retaliated, which was what got him ejected.
While it was clear that St. Brown did throw the first punch, it's easy to see why the appeal failed. Payne still punched back. The retaliation was enough to earn the suspension.
We'll have to see if the league takes any action against St. Brown given that new footage. But regardless, the Commanders will be without Payne for Sunday's game in Madrid.
