LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Suicide Prevention Coalition reported no suicides during the month of October, according to local officials.
The coalition meets every last Friday of each month at the corner of E. Del Mar Blvd. and McPherson Rd. to promote the 988 helpline. So far this year, there have been 17 suicides reported.
“We had several initiatives to remind people that 988 is available for anyone experiencing stress, anxiety, fear, whatever it was. Somebody is there to help people, and we’re going to celebrate that the community of Laredo is reaching out for help,” said Julie Bazan, executive director of the Area Health Education Center.
The coalition will continue to promote the helpline to the community to let them know that help is available to people who need it.
