BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Social Security worker Pamela Ward never thought the government shutdown would last 42 days.
Ward, a customer service representative for Social Security in Birmingham, said employee patience is dwindling and frustrations have grown since the shutdown began in October.
The senate passed a funding measure on Monday night, Nov. 11 to move towards reopening the government but that doesn’t change the impact of the shutdown, which is the longest in U.S. history .
Ward is one of thousands of federal workers across the country who have now gone through two pay periods without a paycheck.
“There’s nothing you can do, you’re just trying to roll with the punches, and the punches are definitely getting harder,” Ward said.
