MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — For the Marshall and West Virginia men’s soccer teams to have realistic hopes of a Top 16 seed in the NCAA Tournament, Wednesday’s Sun Belt Conference Tournament semifinal match could serve as an elimination game to the hopes of the losing side.
Second-seeded WVU (12-3-3) and third-seeded Marshall (10-2-5) are sharing the field at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium for the second time in less than two weeks. On Halloween night, the Mountaineers defeated the Thundering Herd, 3-0 in Marshall’s most-lopsided loss since the second round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
West Virginia checks in at No. 15 in the latest NCAA RPI while Marshall is No. 22. The top 16 seeds earn a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament and hosting rights in the second round.
