The full SNAP benefit payouts have been hanging in the balance after the Supreme Court block forced the United States Department of Agriculture to reverse its guidance on funding November payouts.
This all stems from the government shutdown.
And as payments remain pending, NBC6 wanted to know how many people are affected.
THE NUMBERS
According to the USDA, 1 in every 8 Americans is a SNAP recipient.
As of May of this year, more than 41 million Americans relied on SNAP benefits, with each person receiving an average of $188 a month.
But when we take a closer look at Florida, as of May of this year, close to 3 million Floridians were SNAP recipients. That’s up 0.2% from a year ago.
Which means that close to 13% of Floridians are relying on SNAP benefits, and their average of $181
