FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WCSC) - The man charged in a child sexual exploitation case along with a former Charleston County magistrate was arrested Monday in Florida.
John Badger Thorpe, who faces charges of conspiracy to receive and distribute child pornography and distribution of child pornography, was arrested in Fort Lauderdale on Monday and booked into the Broward County Detention Center, according to jail records.
A detention hearing for him is scheduled for Friday, jail records state.
Newly-released court documents revealed that Thorpe is the man charged alongside James Gosnell Jr., who served for decades as a Charleston County magistrate before he was charged in September.
When authorities in South Carolina released copies of the grand jury indictments, Thorpe’s name was redacted.
