HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The annual Veterans Day ceremony took place at the Waikiki Natatorium War Memorial on Tuesday.
Attendees observed a moment of silence in tribute of the 10,000 Hawaii veterans who served in World War I.
WWI ended in 1918 at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year.
A year later, President Woodrow Wilson celebrated the first Veterans Day, which was called Armistice Day until the end of WWII when it was renamed.
Since the actual Waikiki natatorium is not in useable condition, the ceremony took place on the grounds nearby.
Construction on the war memorial restoration is set to begin in 2027.
