As UConn Health closes in on purchasing Waterbury Health, officials are also seeking support from lawmakers on their investment plan.

UConn Health submitted a $13 million bid last Friday to buy the struggling facility, giving other potential suitors until this upcoming Friday to make their own offers.

In the meantime, officials are also hoping lawmakers will approve increasing UConn’s borrowing capacity under UConn 2000 – a 30-year capital improvement project – by $390 million.

“This is going to be a different place, somewhere that I think people in the community and beyond can be proud to come to,” UConn Health CEO Dr. Andrew Agwunobi said during a press conference at the hospital Tuesday.
