HAMDEN, Conn. — A team of four Quinnipiac students from the School of Computing and Engineering is using Artificial Intelligence, among other high-tech enhancements, to get their app into the market.
The "Eye-Assist" app uses AI software and a depth-sensing camera that work in concert with a smartphone to assist the visually impaired.
“It’s an assistive technology for the visually impaired to help them navigate their environment,” said Christopher Falcone, a QU junior and computer science major.
The app provides visually impaired users with different modes that address their immediate whereabouts and what’s around them. There is both a “Navigation Mode,” an “Explored Surroundings Mode,” and a “Read Mode,” which can read in real time various pieces of information pertinent to the user'
