Model and television personality Coco Austin addressed criticism of her parenting choices during a recent podcast appearance, defending her decision to breastfeed her daughter Chanel until she was 6 years old.

The 46-year-old wife of rapper Ice-T explained on Bunnie XO’s “Dumb Blonde” podcast that the extended nursing was primarily for emotional comfort rather than nutritional needs.

“It wasn’t like I was feeding her because she needed a meal,” Austin said. “She was able to eat by a year, full solids. It was more that she wanted to be around me.”

Austin described the nursing as occurring mainly at bedtime.

“It was mostly when she went to sleep, [and] she wanted me to be there,” she recalled. “So it was more of a comfort thing.”
