WACO, Texas — The CenTex Outlaws are changing what homeschool football looks like in Central Texas.

The Outlaws, part of the Texas Home School Independent League (THIL), finished third this season — their best result in program history — after a 36-0 win over Dasche. The Waco-based team is the only 11-man homeschool football program in the region and competes against schools from across the state, including Dallas and Austin.

Head coach Josh Westerfeld, who was homeschooled himself, said the program’s mission is to give students an opportunity they wouldn’t otherwise have.

“Homeschool sports is something I’m very passionate about, you know, making sure that there’s an opportunity because all these kids out here, they can’t, they can’t just go to a public school and play on their team,
