Joe Thornton spent a majority of his 24-year NHL career playing for the San Jose Sharks.
But, the 6-foot-4 center began his career with the Bruins, with Boston drafting him first overall in the 1997 NHL Draft. He played eight seasons with the Bruins — posting 454 points in 532 games — before the team traded their captain to San Jose in a blockbuster move in November 2005.
The Bruins received back a package of players that included now-Bruins head coach Marco Sturm, along with Wayne Primeau and Brad Stuart — while Thornton went on to win the Hart Trophy as league MVP after posting 125 points across 81 total games between the Bruins and Sharks.
Thornton ultimately played 15 seasons with the Sharks, recording 1,055 points in 1,104 games and closing out career ranked 14th in league history
