KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knox County's Richard L. Bean Juvenile Detention Center needs a new leader. Brian Bivens submitted his resignation over the weekend after less than six months on the job.
"There will be no meeting at 0830 tomorrow," he wrote at 1 p.m. Sunday in a terse note to county officials, including Dwight Van de Vate, chief operating officer. "Effective immediately, I resign."
Knox County commissioner Larsen Jay and Shane Jackson said they didn't expect him to resign so soon, and he stepped down for personal reasons. Commissioner Jay said they were planning on meeting with Bivens on Monday to talk about staffing levels and extending his time another six months.
