Abilene High School English teacher Tim Wilkins has been named the USD 435 Secondary Teacher of the Year.
Wilkins, a 2006 graduate of Abilene High School, said the honor was meaningful but unexpected.
“It’s exciting,” Wilkins said. “I’ve taught here for 13 years, and I feel like I’ve poured myself into it, so it’s good to be recognized, but definitely not why I do it.”
Returning to teach at his alma mater, Wilkins said his own teachers at Abilene inspired his career path — mentors who saw potential in him and helped shape his belief in what good teaching could do. That experience, he said later, never left him.
