The old Maitland Hospital is part of a property audit process that Greens MP Amanda Cohn says could see it placed in private hands.
The top section of the old Maitland Hospital is part of the NSW Government's statewide property audit, a process which Dr Cohn said has seen two-thirds of properties placed through it sold to private ownership.
"This really worries me because we know that the government has sold more than two-thirds of the properties that come in through that audit process straight to private developers," she said.
"This site is obviously extremely well located, extremely important to the community, there's a really important opportunity to redevelop that part of the site for community benefit, and I'm calling on the government to rule out selling it off."
