ATLANTA, Texas (KSLA) - A Navy veteran received her first Veterans Day recognition in the form of major home repairs as around 100 volunteers worked on her Atlanta, Texas home Monday (Nov. 11).
Amelia Gunstanson, who spent eight years in the United States Navy, watched as volunteers led by the Home Depot Foundation began extensive repairs on her home. The foundation provided Gunstanson with a $16,000 grant for the work.
“It’s Veterans Day, the first thing I’ve ever gotten for being a veteran,” Gunstanson said.
Gunstanson said she was overwhelmed by the volunteer turnout.
“I am staggered at the massive amount of people that have showed up to help on this project. It’s just amazing,” she said.
