MADISON (WKOW) -- Tuesday is Veterans Day, a time to honor the service and sacrifice of those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Veterans were recognized at the Wisconsin State Capitol, where Gov. Tony Evers joined veterans, local officials, and military leaders to express gratitude for their service.

"Our nation's heroes should never have to worry about being able to afford keeping a roof over their heads or where they will lay their heads at night. Ever," Evers said.

Evers said veterans have ensured the country continues to persevere through both prosperity and hardship, but they still face challenges in the state.
