ATLANTA — Atlanta is getting another professional sports franchise.
The city was awarded the 17th National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) franchise on Tuesday, as Falcons and Atlanta United owner Arthur Blank backed landing the team for what will cost $165 million as an expansion franchise, according to a report by The Athletic .
The team is expected to debut sometime after the 2026 season and will play its home games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and be owned by Blank's AMB Sports + Entertainment, the holding company of the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United and Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
