PEARL CITY, Ill. (WREX) — The Pearl City Schools hosted a Veterans Day assembly Tuesday, inviting local veterans, their families, and all of the students out to mark the day.
The assembly started nine years ago, growing each year with more veterans and school participation as they teach students about the holiday.
"I just hope that they get out that we honor those who did service for the country, and we are respectful of those who gave their lives for the country, regardless of anything else that's going on in the world or in the country today," Pearl City High School teacher, Dana Jarrard-Lameyer said.
On top of educating the students, the event also aims to honor their hometown heroes.
