The Department of Justice has asked a federal judge to dismiss the indictment against former Cincinnati Councilman P.G. Sittenfeld, who was previously convicted on bribery and attempted extortion charges.

During the federal corruption investigation, Sittenfeld had multiple meetings with undercover FBI agents posing as wealthy investors. In 2022, he was found guilty of accepting campaign donations in exchange for support on a project. Advertisement

This past March, President Donald Trump pardoned Sittenfeld.

NKU Law Professor Ken Katkin explained that a pardon does not expunge convictions and is generally considered an act of mercy rather than justice.

Sittenfeld continued to push his appeal even after the pardon, which Katkin said is rare.
