The race between Bruce Harrell and Katie Wilson for Seattle mayor could be heading for a recount. If that happens, the question is whether that will be done by machine, a process that only takes a few days, or by hand, which can take weeks.

How would this all work?

First, King County Elections must finish counting and have its results certified. That won’t happen in the county until Nov. 25, followed by the state on Dec. 4.

Although most ballots will have been tallied early this week, some yet-undefined number may trickle in from Washington voters currently overseas or that need further review.
