MASSILLON ‒ City firefighters on Nov. 11 put out a blaze at the Bitdeer crytocurrency mining operation under construction at 1115 Industrial Ave. SW.
No one was hurt or transported to the hospital, said Fire Chief Matt Heck.
He said the fire was reported around 2 p.m. Firefighters found two buildings under construction that were on fire. They were among a complex of 24 buildings being built that will apparently house serves for cryptocurrency mining, where high-powered, high-speed servers attempt to solve crypto challenges to earn crypto currency.
Heck said no servers or equipment had been installed yet in the damaged buildings. He said the flames started in one building on the site's southeast corner and wind carried flames to an adjoining building.
