WASHINGTON — Louisville-based Cornbread Hemp , which makes hemp-derived CBD and THC products like gummies and seltzers, is in the middle of a million-dollar expansion.
Days before the Senate voted on a deal to reopen the government, co-founder Jim Higdon, posted a plea on social media: “Call your U.S. senators and let them know to save the hemp industry in the government shutdown talks.”
Slipped into the legislation to end the government shutdown is a provision to impose a new limit on the amount of THC legally allowed in products.
The goal is to close what some call a “loophole” created by the 2018 Farm Bill that has enabled the sale of products with THC derived from hemp.
