LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -On this Veterans Day, while a lot of stores and restaurants offered military veterans a variety of discounts, some were treated to a new pair of shoes.
Dozens of veterans lined up around the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall on St. Joseph Street in Lansing for Soles for Vets. The free shoe giveaway was sponsored by the nonprofit Footprints of Michigan.
Typically, the organization provides footwear to homeless veterans, but on Veterans Day every former service member is invited to get a new pair of shoes.
“It’s nice to be honored, and it’s nice to have a little recognition for what you did,” said Donna Williams, a Marine Corps veteran.
“It’s a wonderful feeling to help them out, just to show a small token of appreciation that a pair of shoes gives to a veteran,” said
