When the first set of rankings from the College Football Playoff selection committee was released last Tuesday, a pair of Big Ten teams found themselves on top.

Following wins against Purdue and Penn State, respectively, No. 1 Ohio State and No. 2 Indiana remained undefeated and maintained their spots in the CFP rankings.

After beating what was then a top-20 Iowa team on the road in a rain-soaked 18-16 nailbiter on a game-winning field goal with three seconds remaining, Oregon moved up a spot to No. 8. Elsewhere, USC moved up to No. 17 after dispatching Northwestern 38-17 and Michigan moved up to No. 18 coming off a bye week. Following its loss to Oregon, Iowa slipped one spot to No. 21
