AUSTIN, Texas — Filing is underway for candidates in local, state and federal races to officially get their names on the ballot for the 2026 Texas primaries. However, there is still significant uncertainty about what the new congressional map will look like.

This summer, Texas Republicans redrew the state’s congressional map in a way they hope will allow their party to pick up five additional seats in the U.S. House of Representatives during next year’s midterm elections. The push to redraw the congressional district map came after heavy urging from President Donald Trump.
