That Pitt football was idle this past week didn’t affect their status in the College Football Playoff Rankings. After debuting at No. 24 in the 2025 season’s initial rankings last week, Pitt checked in at No. 22 ahead of a marquee matchup with newly No. 9 ranked Notre Dame at Acrisure Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Ranked by the selection committee for the second straight week, this marks the 12th time in program history the Panthers are among the CFP top 25. Associated Press poll voters first ranked Pitt last week, awarding it the No. 23 spot. This is the first time this season Pitt has been ranked in all three major polls — the Coaches, Associated Press and College Football Playoff.
