BYU is no longer a top 10 football team, at least in the eyes of the College Football Playoff committee.

After suffering their first loss of the season at Texas Tech, the Cougars slid five spots to No. 12 in Tuesday’s most recent College Football Playoff rankings.

Texas Tech jumped two spots to No. 6 after beating BYU, while Utah remained at No. 13 after a bye week.

Three 2-loss teams ranked just ahead of BYU: Notre Dame, Texas and Oklahoma.

If the Playoff started today, BYU would be on the outside looking in, with presumed ACC champion Miami and Group of 5 representative USF both jumping over the Cougars into the field.

However, currently sitting at No. 12 gives BYU a good chance of moving up further in the rankings should the Cougars end November on a 3-0 stretch to finish 11-1.
