HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — An Arkansas man is sharing his story after learning he had not one, but two cancer diagnoses at the same time.
Jimmie Carpenter knew he had an enlarged prostate, so he never missed a routine screening each year. But one year, he learned he did, in fact, have a type of aggressive prostate cancer and proceeded with more testing.
He never imagined the testing would reveal something even worse when his doctor discovered a spot on Carpenter's lung, despite him having no symptoms at all.
"I think the most stunning thing was, everybody thinks, well, if you smoke, you're going to get lung cancer," he said. "I've never smoked a cigarette in my life, so it was just one of those fluke things, whether it be genetic or environmental. Who knows?"
