PERRY, Ga. — Some residents in Perry are raising concerns over the fire protection fee included in their monthly city services bill.

The charge, which started as a $7 monthly fee in 2014, now costs $24.75, fueling frustration among community members.

“It is frustrating,” said Robert Russell.

For Russell, the fee increase has become too much.

“I mean, they just keep going up on the bills,” Russell said.

Russell described the rising costs as “bowling the frog”—starting small, then gradually increasing beyond expectations.

“You just start out low and then add in a little increase to it to the next thing you know it’s like, 'Why is my water bill so high?'” Russell said.

Russell said his main concern is a lack of explanation for the repeated fee hikes.
