As communities across the nation paused to honor veterans Tuesday, the USS Hornet in Alameda hosted a Veterans Day ceremony, a celebration of service that comes amid new challenges during the government shutdown.
Veterans, families and community members gathered at the historic ship with a message of respect and remembrance – and a call to ensure care for all those who served.
While a funding bill to reopen the government heads to the House for approval, the shutdown has stalled many VA services, from benefit offices to job counseling and call centers.
