If you’d told Dufur coach Jack Henderson before the season that his team would be 9-0 heading into the quarterfinals of the 1A eight-person playoffs, he would have been taken aback.
Henderson, who has seen just about everything during his 39 seasons at the Mid-Columbia school just 10 miles south of The Dalles, admits to still being a little surprised, even with his team going into Friday’s matchup with Perrydale undefeated.
“We are very young,” said Henderson, who’s moved to No. 5 on the state’s all-time wins list this season with a 311-113 record that includes 10 state championships. “But young kids that buy in can improve quickly, and our kids have done that.
