LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Over at Combre Veterans Memorial Park, people paid their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for our country.

Over 20 names of local veterans who died in the line of duty are etched in the monument at Combre Park.

Fifteen years ago, this memorial was built. Now the VFW Post is working on creating a new marker dedicated to women.

“With the VFW as a whole, we’re here to help the community, not only veterans but the community as well. We do everything that we can in order to assist veterans and get their benefits,” Cmdr. Leevon Leggins of VFS Post 7321 said.

Officials with VFW Post 7321 say once they break ground on the new women’s monument, they hope to have it up by the end of 2026.
