PHOENIX — From a VIP breakfast with the governor to a big Veterans Day Parade, it was a day to honor those who served.
And there was a clear message: Welcome home.
The day began with a breakfast at NPHX Church to honor Vietnam War veterans.
About 200 people were in attendance as Gov. Katie Hobbs and former Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley, a Marine who was severely wounded while serving in Vietnam, honored those who served in the Vietnam War.
Both stressed that many Vietnam War veterans came home to a country that didn't welcome or honor them for their service, which Hobbs added was "unacceptable."
The veterans were told "welcome home" and were given commemorative pins for their service.
